In virtual reality, no one can hear you scream... Ridley Scott will bring his own brand of horror back to the big screen with the May 19th release of Alien: Covenant, but the filmmaker also has something else in store for viewers: a virtual reality experience based on the universe of the upcoming Alien film.

Variety reports that Scott will executive produce an Alien: Covenant VR experience that will be directed by David Karlak with the collaboration of The Fox Innovation Lab, who previously released The Martian VR Experience based on Scott's 2015 film.

A specific debut date is not yet known, but the immersive experience is expected to be released on multiple VR formats, and it wouldn't be surprising to see it come out timed around the release of Alien: Covenant this spring.

Attendees of this week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas should also keep an eye out for potential teases of the Alien: Covenant VR experience, which the folks The Fox Innovation Lab called (via Variety) “a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe.”

Variety also revealed this official description of the VR experience:

“Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.”

We'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details regarding the Alien: Covenant VR experience. In the meantime, what would you like to experience from the Alien universe in VR?

A follow-up to 2012's Prometheus and a prequel to Alien (1979), Alien: Covenant was directed by Ridley Scott and features the return of Michael Fassbender, who reprises his role as the android David and also plays the new android Walter.

Additionally, Alien: Covenant stars Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollet, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby. 20th Century Fox will release Alien: Covenant in theaters on May 19th, 2017:

Synopsis: "Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."
