Toho's preparing their first Godzilla release in over ten years, Warner Bros. and Legendary will unleash Godzilla 2 in 2018, and now Anne Hathaway is set to star in Nacho Vigalondo's giant creature feature, Colossal. It's a good time to be a kaiju lover.

According to THR, Anne Hathaway is lined up to play the lead role in writer/director Nacho (Open Windows, Timecrimes, Parallel Monsters segment of V/H/S: Viral) Vigalondo's Colossal. Its tone summed up as "Godzilla meets Lost in Translation", Colossal centers on Gloria (Hathaway), "an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown.

But when news reports surface that a giant lizard is destroying the city of Tokyo, Gloria gradually comes to realize that she is strangely connected to these far-off events via the power of her mind. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world."

The film is backed by Voltage Pictures, produced by Nahikari Ipiña, and will be available to interested foreign parties at the Cannes Film Festival. Of the project, Vigalondo told THR, "Colossal is my most ambitious script so far, and probably also the most personal one. Having Anne and this terrific team around goes beyond my craziest expectations." Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates on Colossal.
