Anton Yelchin Has Passed Away

In absolutely devastating and shocking news, multiple sources report that Anton Yelchin has passed away at the age of 27.

TMZ reports that Yelchin was found pinned between his car and a brick mailbox structure on the fence outside of his home in San Fernando Valley in the early hours of Sunday morning. Foul play is not suspected, as it appears to have been a tragic accident in which Yelchin's car, which was in neutral, rolled down the steep driveway and struck the actor, who was standing behind the vehicle. According to THR, news of Yelchin's death was confirmed by his publicist, Jennifer Allen.

Perhaps best known for playing Chekov in the new Star Trek movies, Yelchin provided people with a reason to seek out the cinema time after time with an impressive number of endearing and empathetic performances. First arriving on many fans' radars with excellent work in 2006's Alpha Dog and 2007's Charlie Bartlett, Yelchin went on to play intriguing roles in the horror and thriller genres, taking on the vampire next door in 2011's Fright Night remake, bringing Dean Koontz's titular character to life in Odd Thomas, and portraying a punk rocker hell-bent on surviving the night in Jeremy Saulnier's Green Room. He also displayed his impressive range in Terminator SalvationLike Crazy, Only Lovers Left Alive, and Burying the Ex.

Yelchin will appear in next month's Star Trek Beyond, as well as several other projects that have yet to be released. Before his untimely passing, Yelchin was lined up to play Brady Hartsfield, aka Mr. Mercedes, in the 10-episode series adaptation of Stephen King's 2014 novel, Mr. Mercedes. Yelchin had also recently signed on to voice the lead role of Jim in Guillermo del Toro's Trollhunters animated series on Netflix.

Taken from this world way too soon at the age of 27, Anton Yelchin left behind an impressive body of work that speaks volumes about his admirable ambition, which drove him to achieve so much at such a young age. His positive impact on life both within and outside of the film industry will not be forgotten, and will surely live on to inspire future generations.
