American Horror Story made its SDCC debut tonight, and while no footage of the upcoming Freak Show installment was revealed, a more detailed list of key characters was unveiled, and a new addition to the cast was announced.

Taking place in the relatively small Room 6DE, the American Horror Story panel featured the show's Executive Producer Tim Minear and cast members who took part in last year's American Horror Story: Coven and/or the upcoming American Horror Story: Freak Show. Though some of the following characters have been unveiled already, this is the most detailed character list yet revealed:

  • Jessica Lange is Elsa Mars
  • Emma Roberts is Maggie
  • Sarah Paulson plays Siamese twins Bette and Dot Tattler
  • Michael Chiklis is Wendell Del Toredo, husband of Desiree and ex-husband of Effil
  • Angela Bassett is Del Toredo's wife Desiree Duprée
  • Kathy Bates is Effil Darling, Del Toredo's ex-wife
  • Evan Peters will play Del Toredo and Effil's son, Jimmy Darling
  • John Carroll Lynch will play a villain that will rival the creepiness of the Rubber Man and the Minotaur from earlier installments, and with Ryan Murphy having previously revealed that AHS: Freak Show will feature a clown killer, that likely could be Lynch's character. Lynch played the suspected serial killer Arthur Leigh Allen in David Fincher's Zodiac (2007).

The cast of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Freak Show includes Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, Michael Chiklis, Denis O’Hare, Emma Roberts, and the recently announced Finn Wittrock. Jessica Lange was the first announced cast member and it has been said that Season 4 will be her last.

American Horror Story: Freak Show is set in 1950′s Jupiter, Florida, where Jessica Lange manages one of the last freak shows in the US and her performers include most of the main cast mentioned above. American Horror Story: Freak Show will include thirteen episodes and is expected to premiere in October.
