Today is a big day for the team here at Daily Dead and, rather than send out our press release to everyone right away, I thought it was important to share the news with our readers first. It’s a simple fact that this site wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for readers that support us every day, and the dedicated and talented writers that have joined Daily Dead over the years.

I started Daily Dead with two basic goals: to have an outlet to share my love of horror and sci-fi, and to connect with readers and writers who had the same kind of passion for these genres. Since opening in late 2010, I’ve been fortunate to meet many readers online and in person, and I’m honored that you’ve made us your source for horror and sci-fi news. As many who have been reading Daily Dead for years know, this is a project that is constantly evolving and what you see now is only the start of something bigger we’ve been working toward.

I’m pleased to announce the upcoming launch of DEADLY - Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine. An extension of what we’ve been doing on Daily Dead, DEADLY will take what you love about Daily Dead and expand upon it with in-depth features, guest columns, event reports, and a continued strong focus on classic releases. While Daily Dead has always included sci-fi titles in our coverage, we’re also going to expand upon the releases we cover, giving readers a broader look at the genres we love. This has been a project we’ve been working toward since last year and we’re planning to release a preview issue in September, with the first full issue available in October.

What does this mean for Daily Dead? We’re going to continue with our daily coverage of the horror genre and a successful magazine launch will only allow us to improve upon our coverage and increase our output. One of the biggest challenges that any news website faces is displaying advertisements and 99% of the websites out there are supported solely by ad sales. Unfortunately, relying on only advertising isn’t stable, rates are constantly changing, and campaigns are always taking over more of the screen. I’ve never wanted to overload Daily Dead with ads and launching the magazine will allow readers to support us in a way that directly benefits them. Not only will the magazine revenue prevent us having to run massive ads on Daily Dead, but it will also go to increasing our staff and offering additional features that readers have been asking for.

Additionally, the monthly magazine format offers our writers a great deal of freedom. Running a website that covers the latest news and releases will sometimes prevent us from focusing on passion projects. With increased staff, we can spread out responsibilities and release more special features that we’ve wanted to tackle. Heather Wixson’s recent Stan Winston Week articles are a great example of the type of features we have an interest in, and we’re already working on similar content for both Daily Dead and the magazine.

I’m very excited for what’s ahead and I can’t wait to show Daily Dead readers what we’ve been working on. I’ve included a look at the official press release and logo below. We’ve also set up a splash page where you can sign up to be notified on the latest news regarding DEADLY - Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine. Those who sign up for the newsletter will get an early look at the cover and details on what you can expect from the first issues.

Daily Dead is Proud to Announce:

A New Monthly Publication Dedicated to Horror & Sci-Fi Entertainment

July 22nd, 2014 - The team behind Daily Dead is proud to announce DEADLY - Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine, a new monthly publication that will offer readers an in-depth look at horror and sci-fi entertainment, with exclusive interviews, reviews, retrospectives, special guest columnists, and breaking news.

Continuing and expanding upon Daily Dead’s extensive coverage of the latest horror releases, DEADLY - Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine will focus on all aspects of genre entertainment, including movies, video games, TV shows, collectibles, comic books, and events.

Jonathan James, Editor-in-Chief of Daily Dead, sees this as the next phase of the website he first launched in 2010:

“Daily Dead has grown tremendously since 2010 and I’ve been fortunate that we’ve assembled a staff of passionate writers, who live and breathe horror and sci-fi. Over the years, I’ve wanted to extend our coverage beyond daily news and covering the latest releases, allowing our writers to pursue passion projects and topics outside of our current coverage zone.

DEADLY - Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine will be a treat for Daily Dead visitors and new readers alike. This magazine launch has been more than a year in the making and I’m very excited to show our readers what we’ve been working on.”

Before the first full issue of DEADLY - Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine is released in October, genre fans will be able to get their first taste of the magazine when Issue #0 is released in September. An extension of Daily Dead’s recent Stan Winston Week Celebration, Issue #0 will feature a tribute to Stan Winston and The Terminator, with exclusive interviews and never-before-seen photos. Additionally, Issue #0 will include a House II retrospective, a special feature on Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno, impressions from FrightFest and all of the latest horror and sci-fi news.

DEADLY - Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine will be available at DeadlyMagazine.com, DailyDead.com, and on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon.com, and other digital services. To receive the latest updates on DEADLY Horror & Sci-Fi Magazine, visit: http://www.DeadlyMagazine.com
