Those who still believe over twelve years after the original airing of The X-Files series finale could see their beloved supernatural show make a comeback to the small screen, as The X-Files follow-up series discussions continue after Fox TV Group chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden confirmed over the weekend that the network is considering bringing back the cult series for a new installment.

Fox is looking to include series creator Chris Carter in the next chapter and feature David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back in their respective roles as FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Fans may be wondering what the two stars of the series think of the potential comeback and now some light has been shed on that subject, as Duchovny recently shared his thoughts on returning to the world of The X-Files.

Talking with USA Today, Duchovny said that he's "more than happy and excited to bring it [The X-Files] back and do it again with Gillian [Anderson] and Chris [Carter]."

Duchovny also discussed the length of the follow-up series and when it could potentially move forward (Carter is eyeing this summer as one possible time to kick production into gear):

"I'm assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We'll see what form, how many [episodes]. Certainly I can't nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form."

Should Fox officially move forward with The X-Files follow-up series, it would mark Mulder and Scully's first onscreen appearance since 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Granted, neither Duchovny nor Anderson have officially signed on to star in The X-Files follow-up series (and both actors have busy schedules: Duchovny stars in NBC’s upcoming 1960’s-set series Aquarius and Anderson moved up to a Season 3 regular as Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier on NBC’s Hannibal), and the existence of the show itself is still being considered by Fox and has yet to be green-lit, so don’t get your hopes too high on seeing the return of Fox and Mulder just yet.

The discussion is gradually becoming more concrete, however, and there’s definitely a chance that those who still believe will see their favorite show and characters return. We’ll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details as they surface.
