Santánico Pandemonium (Eiza González) is free from her prison and on the prowl for revenge in the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. Ahead of the fifth episode's debut tonight on the El Rey Network, Daily Dead took part in an interview call with González, who discussed working with Danny Trejo, watching From Dusk Till Dawn the movie when she was six, and much more.

González on the creative freedom of season two:

Eiza González: In the first season we were very on the books of the original movie. We had to respect the storyline of each and every character. This time I’m very excited because we got to be off the books for the whole second season and just create a whole new world for each of the characters.

She’s leaving—for the first time—the Titty Twister and she’s walking out into the real world. She’s looking for revenge. She wants to get back at all these people who used her for the wrong means. She’s a unique, strong character—a driven woman who knows what she wants and what she’s aiming for.

The character of Santánico becomes a huge lead on the second season because everyone’s chasing her. She’s the nucleus of the whole second season.

On working with Danny Trejo, who plays The Regulator:

Eiza González: I adore Danny. I always thought he was such a badass. When I got to meet him, he’s like family. He’s such a nice person. When you talk to him, he talks about his family and his kids and being a musician. He’s an inspiring person. He’s been clean for so long and he’s such a positive energy. He’s brilliant and he’s such a badass. Danny doesn’t have to do anything to look like a badass.

On seeing From Dusk Till Dawn the movie at a young age:

Eiza González: Even if I die tomorrow, I’m so happy that I got the chance to work with these amazing people that I grew up looking up to. When I watched From Dusk Till Dawn the movie I was six. That’s how crazy this is to me. I saw Danny and Robert’s work when I was six and I was like, “Hopefully one day I get to do this.” And to be able to do it today is a dream come true for sure.

On Santánico's strange relationship with Richie Gecko (Zane Holtz):

Eiza González: She has such a weird relationship with Richard [Gecko]. They’re a couple, but it’s not like a couple, it’s just a weird connection. She’s using him and he’s using her. It’s the unnatural relationship that the culebras have. You see the way that Richard and Santanico talk to each other and it’s really weird, something’s off.

On Santánico's determination to bring down the operation that had imprisoned her:

Eiza González: Santánico has a purpose. She’s not sick or drunk with power. She’s very intelligent, she’s more brains than Richie in a certain way. She’s more interested in bringing the operation down. She doesn’t want to be like them. She wants to change the world. She seems like the bad one at the end of the day, but things can turn around.

I definitely think they’re [Santánico and Richie] clashing in interests and that can be a really bad thing for both characters. This is a show where, if you’re in my way, I’ll get rid of you. This season there’s no good or bad. You don’t know who to trust. Everyone’s looking over their shoulders all the time.
