From their ominous tag lines to their eye-grabbing covers and creepy contents, R.L. Stine's Fear Street books effectively transported many young readers to the spooky streets of Shadyside. Started in 1989 with The New Girl, the Fear Street series recently hit bookstands once again and now it could be heading to theaters, as well.

TheWrap reports that a film adaptation of Stine's Fear Street books is in the works at 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment, with Stine himself confirming that something is in the pipeline. It's not yet known if the film will follow any of the many storylines from the series, or if it will simply be "based" on the scary setup of the series as a whole.

No other details are known at this time, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further developments. In the meantime, Stine fans have the October 16th release of the Goosebumps movie to look forward to, and Stine's latest Fear Street novel, The Lost Girl, was released on September 29th.

What do you think of the Fear Street film news? Which favorite stories from the series would you like to see adapted for the big screen?
