Though Guardians of the Galaxy hasn't officially come out yet, Marvel Studios must have really enjoyed what co-writer/director James Gunn did with the project, as they are looking to bring him back to write and direct the recently revealed Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Variety reports via The Wrap that Marvel Studios has tapped James Gunn to write and direct a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, which hits theaters on August 1st. There's no word yet on whether or not Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote the Guardians of the Galaxy script with Gunn, based on the comic book series by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, will return for the sequel. Gunn is no stranger to horror fans, as he wrote the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake and was the writer and director of the 2006 cult hit, Slither.

Expect more details to be revealed at Marvel's Comic-Con panel tomorrow. We'll keep Daily Dead readers posted on further developments with our live Comic-Con coverage.

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.
