Since Hellboy II: The Golden Army came out in theaters in 2008, hope for a third film in the series has always burned bright among the fans of the big screen adaptation of the beloved Mike Mignola character. Today, though, that fire was snuffed out by a sobering announcement from writer/director Guillermo del Toro.

On Twitter today, Guillermo del Toro, who directed Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), made the following statement regarding a third Hellboy movie:

"Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it."

And so it looks like Ron Perlman won't don the red suit again. The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense is closed for business on the big screen, and although the Hellboy character will live on in the comic books and the previously made films, what do you wish they could have done with a third Hellboy movie?
