Halloween 3D Status Update

It seems like every week a new Halloween 3D rumor spreads online and we've had a number of readers submitting tips or asking for a status update. We have confirmation on the "found footage" rumor being false, along with an update from Todd Farmer.

The big rumor floating around was that the next Halloween sequel would be going the PG-13 route with a "found footage" film. In a recent interview, producer Malek Akkad confirmed that the next Halloween film would not be a "found footage" movie. The rumor appears to have started due to a "found footage" pitch for a new Friday the 13th film.

There have been other rumors of directors being officially attached to a sequel, but that is not the case. The only official development-related news comes from a recent Twitter update from Todd Farmer:

"2 years ago today, Lussier and I handed in our first and only draft of H3D. Interesting considering today we hand in a brand new take."

Their next project was supposed to be a big-budget Hellraiser reboot, but that project has been canceled. Originally, they had worked on a Halloween 3D pitch that took place right after Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, but the new draft is expected to be unrelated to the Rob Zombie films.

Even though Halloween 3D is not officially in production, a release date of October 26, 2012 has already been penciled in. Of course, this date can always change, but moving forward with this project is a priority for Dimension Films. If they want to stick with that release schedule, we should be hearing more news on the project in the very near future.
