Featuring a plot that amplifies people's fears of STDs, Eric England's Contracted has done well on VOD, with its potent combination of unsettling decomposition and keen social commentary attracting a steady stream of viewers. The home media response to Contracted has been successful enough for IFC Midnight to move forward with a sequel, Contracted: Phase II, which will follow both familiar and new faces.

Deadline reports that IFC Midnight is developing Contracted: Phase II with Josh Forbes in the director's chair. The sequel will mark Forbes' first feature film, working off a script by Craig Walendziak.

Eric England, who wrote and directed Contracted, is not attached to the sequel. The follow-up film will see the return of characters Riley (Matt Mercer) and Alice (Alice Macdonald). In addition to Mercer and Macdonald, the sequel's cast includes Peter Cilella, Marianna Palka, Morgan Peter Brown, Laurel Vail, Anna Lore and Suzanne Voss.

Contracted: Phase II is currently in the early stages of production, with no release date set at this time. If you want a tease of what's to come, you can read the film's synopsis revealed by Deadline*Spoiler Warning: The synopsis contains potential spoilers for those who haven't seen Contracted.*

"The sequel continues where Contracted left off, as newly-infected Riley (Matt Mercer) scrambles to track down those responsible for the outbreak and discovers a larger conspiracy that threatens to infect the world."
