We're back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today's feature includes trailers for 100 Bloody Acres and Teacher's Day, a first look at a scene from Ditch Day Massacre, details on The Employer, and more:
First Trailer for 100 Bloody Acres: "In 100 BLOODY ACRES, brothers Reg and Lindsay Morgan are struggling to keep their organic blood and bone fertilizer business in motion. Their secret “recipe” for success (using dead car crash victims in their product) was a huge boon to business, but lately supply has been gravely low. Months have passed since their last find, and an important new customer is now waiting on a delivery. When junior partner Reg (Damon Herriman of Justified) stumbles upon 3 travelers stranded on a remote country road, he cooks up a radical solution to their problem, and a way of finally gaining the respect of his bossy big brother (Angus Sampson). But when Reg starts to fall for Sophie, one of the intended victims, things get complicated…
A bloody good time, the Cairnes’ brothers witty horror-comedy blends sly Australian humor, gory fun, and a clever storyline that gives “recycling” a whole new context."
The Employer: "Director / Writer / Producer Frank Merle (“Carnage, Chaos & Creeps,” “Gnaw”) and his new psychological thriller “The Employer” show just how-far five applicants are willing to go for a job at the mysterious Carcharias Corporation. Anticipating their final interview, they find themselves trapped in a room where The Employer (Malcolm McDowell) leaves them with only one choice: survive. It’s kill or be killed in this Darwinian game of wits and the one who makes it out alive… lands the job. The plot is complete with twists and turns leaving the audience asking themselves, “How far would I go?”
Starring Malcolm McDowell (“A Clockwork Orange,” “The Mentalist,” “Entourage,” “Franklin & Bash”); Paige Howard (“Adventureland”); Billy Zane(“Titanic,” “Back to the Future,” “Dead Calm”); and David Dastmalchian (“The Dark Knight,” “Saving Lincoln,” “Prisoners”)."
The Employer will be available starting on June 7th on-demand, with a Blu-ray/DVD release taking place on July 2nd. Learn more at: http://theemployermovie.com/
First Details for Dude Bro Party Massacre 3: "We're 5secondfilms! 20-something internet comedy troupe #2,307. We've been providing sketch comedy videos, exactly 5 seconds in length, every single weekday since 2008. In the past 5 years we have NEVER missed a day. It's that consistency and reliability that has helped build a loving fanbase that comes back day after day.
But our ideas and passion couldn't be contained in 5 seconds for long. We've shot longer sketches in the past, and now we put out weekly sketches on Uproxx Video. Yet it still wasn't enough...WE WANTED MORE SECONDS! Then we remembered a blood, sweat and beer-fueled 5sf called Dude Bro Party Massacre 3. It's going to be longer than a 5sf and it's even going to be longer than the 88-second trailer we shot a couple years back. We're talking a FULL LENGTH FEATURE FILM MOVIE! That's like 5,400 seconds!
DUDE BRO PARTY MASSACRE 3 follows BRENT CHIRINO as he enters the oil-misted halls of the DELTA BI THETA fraternity. Brent isn’t just any pledge... he’s a legacy. And it’s a legacy of death. See, Brent is here to solve the mystery of his identical twin brother Brock’s murder, and he’ll do anything to crack the case... even attempt the frat’s most daring prank of all time. After the Deltas’ senior prank causes two commercial jets to collide over an orphanage, they’re punished to a weekend at The Old Sorority House by the Lake. But they’re not the only ones there... a mysterious killer named MOTHERFACE lurks nearby. She knows the bros’ deepest fears... and she’s taking advantage of those fears to pick them off, one by shirtless one, in increasingly gory ways.
Still not satisfied? What if we told you that this whole crazy package takes the form of a VHS recording that a Midwestern teenager made from a late-night broadcast in the late 80s? Which means you get the film, plus host segments, TV commercial parodies, fake news alerts, and more!"
New Scene from Ditch Day Massacre Released: "Jenny Bilson, a high school senior, is the perfect student, a wonderful daughter to a veteran police detective and an all American Dream. But the one mistake she is unaware of making is about to haunt her in a very violent way, as her past returns for revenge.
[Here's] a new scene from the the film. Plus insight from the director (Joe Hendrick). There is hell to pay for cutting class!"
Ditch Day Massacre stars Bill Oberst Jr, Katy Foley, and Zach Silverman.
Home Sweet Home DVD Release Details: "After going broke, Gwen Stevens is forced to return to her abandoned childhood home hoping to pick up the pieces of her life. Among the relics and memories of her past, she discovers someone is living in the house and they don't want to leave. In the New Mexico desert, miles from safety, Gwen must fight to protect the only thing she has left. Her life.
Directed by John K.D. Graham and written by Andrew Boylan, Home Sweet Home stars Alexandra Boylan, Raquel Cantu, and Christopher Dempsey. Home Sweet Home will hit shelves on June 4th."
Little Reaper Short Film: "Little Reaper is a horror comedy about the grim reaper's difficult teenage daughter, who takes over her father's duties as reaper for one day. Chaos ensues.
Written and directed by Peter Dukes through Dream Seekers Productions, Little Reaper stars Athena Baumeister and John Paul Ouvrier, with John Michael Herndon, Katharine Stapleton, Allisyn Ashley Arm, Katy Townsend and Sorsha Morava."
Founders Day Production Details: "In FOUNDERS DAY, the quaint, suburban town of Fairfield is shaken by the shocking murder of high school student, Melissa Thompson. The prime suspect is jailed, and the residents look to the town's 200th anniversary celebration for a sense of normalcy and unity. When more bodies turn up, however, students, teachers, and parents alike grow increasingly suspicious of one another. With no clear motive, everyone is a suspect.
The concept trailer for the horror feature film will begin shooting this summer."
First Teaser Trailer for Teacher's Day: "After being fired, a high school history teacher goes on a killing spree, stalking his former female students at their slumber party."
Written and directed by Jared Masters, Teacher's Day stars Nikole Howell, Lindsay Lamb, Danika Galindo, Courtney Rood and Bruce Kade.
Details on Horror Novel, Wherewolves: "WHEREWOLVES is the story of a group of high school seniors, most of them “military brats”, who are headed for an army-type survival weekend with their teacher, 'The Sarge'.
The underdogs, Jeffrey and Doris, do not want to go as they fear for their safety among the disdain and cruelty of the popular students. Sergeant Tim O’Sullivan, their teacher, as well as their dysfunctional parents pressure them into going, but it is an unforgivable act by their peers that propels the pair to go. Likewise, Elie, a student resented because of his Arab roots, is even more determined to prove himself.
In the woods, the students hike, hunt, camp, and soon act in unity as the forest brings them closer together. But does it? When the kids start disappearing one after the other, the remaining begin to unwittingly “act like the natives” carving spears, ready to face whatever is out there.
Amid blood-curdling growls and gruesome deaths, the story’s underlying layers are revealed. We see how misconceptions, prejudice, greed, fear, and hatred bring out the worst and best in them."
Beautiful People Teaser Trailer: "In a mansion in the woods, the peaceful life of a medical scientist and his family is upset by a three masked men raid. During an endless night of terror and violence, the unthinkable happens: the house is invaded by inhuman monsters. Fear will unveil the true nature of each character, forcing them to wonder…Who is the real monster?
Currently in pre-production, “Beautiful People” will be released in the early 2014. It was written by the twisted mind of Andrea Cavaletto, well know for “Hidden in the Woods”. Starring Carl Wharton (Zombie Massacre and Wrath of the Crows), Lucy Drive (The Borgias, Outside Bet, Hard Shoulder), Daniel Cutler, Alex Southern, James Wiles (The Muppets…Again!) and Alex Lucchesi (Eaters, Zombie Massacre and Bloodlines)."
