Happy 2016, everyone! I sure hope you received some shopping money this holiday season, as this first week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases is a big one and we’ve got a lot to look forward to. Two of my personal favorites of 2015 are making their way home this week to Blu-ray and DVD—Deathgasm and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse—and Universal is serving up a double dose of terror with their releases of The Green Inferno and The Visit.

Scream Factory is also keeping busy with their double feature Blu-ray of The House Where Evil Dwells / Ghost Warrior and Over Your Dead Body, the latest from Takashi Miike. Other notable releases on January 5th include The Inhabitants, Wrecker, Condemned, and Kill Game.

Deathgasm (Dark Sky Films, Blu-ray & DVD)

High School is Hell! Metal-thrashing Brodie is an outcast in a sea of jocks and cheerleaders until he meets a kindred spirit in fellow metalhead Zakk. After starting their own band, Brodie and Zakk s resentment of the suburban wasteland leads them to a mysterious piece of sheet music said to grant Ultimate Power to whoever plays it. But the music also summons an ancient evil entity known as Aeloth The Blind One, who threatens to tear apart existence itself. Their classmates and family become inhabited by demonic forces, tearing out their own eyes and turning into psychotic murderers... and this is only the beginning! It s up to Brodie, Zakk and their group of friends to stop a force of pure evil from devouring all of mankind.

A blood-soaked and hilarious horror comedy, DEATHGASM features an amazing original soundtrack of fistbanging metal and practical effects to satisfy metalheads and splatter fans alike. DEATHGASM will gush bodily fluids, rain limbs and tickle your funny bone, before tearing it out and giving you a stiff beating with it.

Special Features include Commentary with Writer-Director Jason Lei Howden, Featurettes, and Music Video: Bulletbelt Deathgasm.

The Green Inferno (Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Blu/Digital HD & DVD)

From acclaimed horror director, Eli Roth, The Green Inferno follows New York college student Justine, who meets a student activist Alejandro when he goes on a hunger strike on behalf of underpaid janitors. Smitten, Justine agrees to help Alejandro undertake his next project: to save the Amazon. Justine soon learns to regret her decision when their plane crashes in the Peruvian jungle and the students discover that they are not alone, and that no good deed goes unpunished, as they are held captive by a cannibalistic tribe.

Special Features include Digital Copy of The Green Inferno, UltraViolet Code, Photo Gallery and Feature Commentary with Co-Writer/Director/Producer Eli Roth, Producer Nicolas Lopez, and Stars Lorenza Izzo, Aaron Burns, Kirby Bliss Blanton, and Daryl Sabara.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (Paramount, Blu/DVD/Digital HD & DVD)

Three scouts and lifelong friends join forces with one badass cocktail waitress to become the world’s most unlikely team of heroes. When their peaceful town is ravaged by a zombie invasion, they’ll fight for the badge of a lifetime and put their scouting skills to the test to save mankind from the undead.

Directed by Christopher Landon, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse stars Tye Sheridan, David Koechner, Cloris Leachman, Halston Sage, Logan Miller, Joey Morgan, and Sarah Dumont.

The Visit (Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Blu/DVD/Digital HD & DVD)

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series) welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit. Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day. Shyamalan produces The Visit through his Blinding Edge Pictures, while Blum produces through his Blumhouse Productions alongside Marc Bienstock (Quarantine 2: Terminal). Steven Schneider (Insidious) and Ashwin Rajan (Devil) executive produce the thriller.
