After defending South London from aliens in Attack the Block, John Boyega traveled to a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the actor is now looking to come back to Earth's defense in Pacific Rim 2.

Deadline reports that in Pacific Rim 2, Boyega is set to play the son of Stacker Pentecost, the character portrayed by Idris Elba in the original film. An influential officer in the fight against the Kaiju, Stacker died alongside Chuck Hansen (Robert Kazinsky) while co-piloting the Jaeger Striker Eureka in a fight to seal the Breach. In addition to playing the lead role, Boyega's UpperRoom Productions will co-produce the sequel with Legendary.

Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Netflix’s Daredevil) will helm the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 film. Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) was recently brought on to work on the screenplay for Pacific Rim 2, with an earlier draft written by Jon Spaihts (The Mummy, Doctor Strange, Prometheus).

A Legendary Pictures film, Pacific Rim 2 will be released by Universal, although an official debut date has not been revealed. It’s currently uncertain who will come back to reprise their roles of the survivors from the first film, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details.
