It seems that this week is a particularly good week to be a genre fan if angsty-yet-kickass high school gals are your thing, as not only is Scream Factory releasing the modern cult classic Ginger Snaps onto Blu-ray, but Lucky McKee’s All Cheerleaders Die is finally getting its home release as well.

Also being released this week are the intense revenge thriller Blue Ruin, several indie horror movies are making their DVD debuts, and there are also a few classic genre films that are heading to the high-def format from the folks over at Mill Creek Entertainment too.

SPOTLIGHT TITLES:

All Cheerleaders Die (Image Entertainment, Blu-ray & DVD)

Teenage outsider Maddy (Caitlin Stasey, I, Frankenstein) is keeping some dark secrets and holding a serious grudge against the captain of the Blackfoot High football team. When Maddy joins the school's elite and powerful cheerleading squad, she convinces her new friends to help inflict her revenge. After a late-night party goes awry, their plans take an unexpected turn for the worst and all of the girls die. A sinister, supernatural power intervenes and the girls mysteriously appear at school the next day with a killer new look… and some unusual new appetites. "Sexy, campy, funny, subversive, angsty and most importantly fun" (The Hollywood Reporter) ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE is a rebellious horror-comedy that redefines the genre.

Blue Ruin (Anchor Bay, Blu-ray & DVD)

BLUE RUIN is a classic American revenge story, following a mysterious outsider whose quiet life is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home, determined to carry out an act of vengeance. His inexperience as an assassin lands him in a brutal fight to protect his estranged family in this critically-acclaimed new thriller by director Jeremy Saulnier (MURDER PARTY). Starring Macon Blair, Devin Ratray, Amy Hargreaves and Eve Plumb.

Ginger Snaps (Scream Factory, Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Fifteen-year-old Brigitte Fitzgerald (Emily Perkins, Insomnia, Juno) and her nearly-sixteen-year-old sister Ginger (Katharine Isabelle, Freddy vs. Jason, Hannibal) are both best friends and outcasts. Obsessed with dying and bound by a childhood pact to stay together forever, they loathe their mind-numbing existence in the suburbs of Bailey Downs. One night the two girls are heading through the woods when Ginger is savagely attacked by a wild creature.

Ginger’s horrible wounds miraculously heal over, but something is not quite right about her. Ginger is irritable and in denial. But to Brigitte, it is obvious that a terrifying force has taken hold of her sister.
