King Kong lovers will get to see where it all began for the beloved beast when Legendary and Universal's Kong: Skull Island hits theaters in 2017. With filming slated to begin on the project in October, the script is still being shaped, with the film's fourth scribe, Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly, now on board to give the project's printed pages a polish before they're translated to the big screen.

News of Connolly's attachment to Kong: Skull Island comes from The Hollywood Reporter. Connolly will work on a final draft of the script before cameras start rolling in Hawaii in late October (with shooting locations also including Vietnam and Iceland). The Jurassic World and Safety Not Guaranteed co-writer is the fourth scribe to lend a pen to the Kong: Skull Island script, with Max Borenstein (2014's Godzilla), John Gatins (Flight) and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) preceding him.

A Legendary film, Universal Pictures will release Kong: Skull Island in 3D and IMAX 3D on March 10th, 2017. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) will direct the upcoming film that stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Corey Hawkins. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates.

“In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with KONG: SKULL ISLAND, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series). Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, upcoming Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.”
