Ghostbusters fans who enjoyed last summer's The Heat are in for a treat: Sony has set their sights on that film's writer, Katie Dippold, to help pen the next chapter of the ectoplasmic franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Katie Dippold will share scripting duties on the Ghostbusters reboot with director Paul Feig. The duo previously teamed-up on 2013's buddy cop comedy, The Heat, which stars Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
It was recently revealed that the long-awaited third Ghostbusters movie will be a departure from the storylines and cast of the first two films, starring instead a team of all-female paranormal investigators. Originally in line to helm the third Ghostbusters film (back when it was set to star the original characters of the first two films) before leaving the director's chair in March (soon after series star and co-writer Harold Ramis passed away), Ivan Reitman (director of 1984's Ghostbusters and 1989's Ghostbusters II), will produce the reboot.
Paul Feig has plenty of experience writing and directing comedy-dramas. He created the short-lived but long-loved Freaks and Geeks, directed numerous episodes of Arrested Development and The Office, and directed the 2011 smash-hit, Bridesmaids. In addition to writing The Heat, Katie Dippold has penned episodes of Parks and Recreation and was a regular writer on MADtv. No names for the female-centric cast of the Ghostbusters reboot have been revealed yet, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further announcements.
