Moviegoers last saw Max Rockatansky roaming the desert wasteland in 1985, but longtime fans of director/writer George Miller's apocalyptic road rage series will be reunited with the widowed wanderer in May of 2015, when Mad Max: Fury Road hits theaters. While much of the film was shot in 2012, details surrounding Miller's fourth entry in the series have been barren. But not anymore, as a new set of photos and an updated synopsis of Fury Road have been unleashed.

As part of their "Apocalypse Issue", EW chatted with Miller, who gave insight on the storyline of the latest Mad Max film and touched on Tom Hardy's portrayal of Max Rockatansky (previously played by Mel Gibson) and Charlize Theron's tough-as-nails character, Imperator Furiosa. Fans of The Road Warrior should be happy to hear that the movie will essentially be one long chase scene with low amounts of dialogue and digital effects. Here's the updated synopsis of the film, which was shot in seven months in the desert of Namibia:

"MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And… Furiosa (played by CHARLIZE THERON from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland."

In addition to Hardy and Theron, the rest of the cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, with the man who played Toecutter from 1979's Mad Max, Hugh Keays-Byrne, playing a new role in the fourth film.

We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on Mad Max: Fury Road as it rumbles toward its May 2015 release. In the meantime, you can check out these photos from the film, thanks to EW!
