*Updated with additional casting details.* She took on the Witch King in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and soon Miranda Otto (Homeland) will encounter another creepy entity in Annabelle 2, along with actress Stephanie Sigman (Spectre, Narcos).

According to THR, Otto will play a deformed and solitary spouse of the dollmaker who built the doll known as Annabelle. The couple had a daughter who died twenty years previously, but they are no longer alone in their home when a nun, Sister Charlotte, (played by Sigman, as reported by Variety) and a few girls in her care come knocking on their door looking for shelter. But their perceived shelter becomes a living hell when Annabelle sets her sinister sights on the new houseguests.

Lights Out director David F. Sandberg will helm Annabelle 2 from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, and filming is expected to start in July in Los Angeles.

James Wan and Peter Safran will produce the sequel to 2014's Annabelle, which is a spin-off of The Conjuring film series, as the titular character is a possessed doll encountered by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. A New Line Cinema film, Annabelle 2 is scheduled to hit theaters from Warner Bros. on May 19th, 2017.
