Even though Halloween will soon be behind us, that doesn’t mean November is without a few terror-filled tricks up its sleeve, particularly when it comes to genre films arriving on VOD throughout the month. Things kick off in grand style with the release of the creature feature Lavalantula courtesy of Alchemy, as well as the latest anthology, Mexico Barbaro, featuring eight Mexican directors coming together to give us their unique takes on various folklore and traditions.

Other films hitting VOD in November include The Hallow, Wrecker, Condemned, Deep Dark, Uncanny, Crumbs, Applesauce and the social media inspired thriller, #Horror.

Lavalantula (Alchemy) - November 3rd

After a dormant volcano erupts miles outside of Los Angeles, something within the molten hot lava is awakened. Birthed from the bowels of the Earth itself, arachnid-like creatures with an obsidian-black exoskeleton swarm out. One man, Colton West, a washed-up, former A-list action star, suddenly finds himself the real life hero as he’s forced to use his on screen characters’ know-how to save the entire city from being victims to the most horrifying villains you couldn’t write any better.

México Barbaro (Dark Sky Films) - November 3rd

Eight Mexican directors have united to create a film anthology featuring the most brutally terrifying Mexican traditions and legends, brought to vividly shocking life. MÉXICO BARBARO presents haunting stories that have been woven into the fabric of a nation’s culture, some passed down through the centuries and some new, but all equally frightening. Stories of boogeymen, trolls, ghosts, monsters, Aztec sacrifices, and - of course - the Day of the Dead all come together to create a film that is as original as it is familiar... and as important as it is horrifying.

Tiger House (Magnet Releasing) - November 3rd

TIGER HOUSE is an intense, contained cat-and-mouse thriller that tells the story of Kelly (Kaya Scodelario – The Maze Runner, Skins, Pirates Of The Caribbean 5) a tough gymnast trying to get her life back on track after a career-ending injury.

One night Kelly sneaks into her boyfriend Mark’s (Daniel Boyd) family home; but she’s not the only one with designs on the house that evening. A gang lead by Shane (Dougray Scott – Mission: Impossible II, Taken 3, Enigma) and Callum (Ed Skrein – Game Of Thrones, The Transporter Legacy, Deadpool) has come to abduct Mark’s father and force him to carry out a robbery on the cash depot that he manages.

Kelly instantly becomes the one unknown element in the gang’s meticulously plan heist. As the next 12 hours unfold she must use every reserve of skill and courage to outwit and overpower her four highly trained adversaries.

Uncanny (RLJ Entertainment) - November 3rd

For ten years, inventor David Kressen has lived in seclusion with his inventions, including Adam, a robot with incredible lifelike human qualities. When reporter Joy Andrews is given access to their unconventional facility, she is alternately repelled and attracted to the scientist and his creation. But as Adam exhibits emergent behavior of anger and jealousy towards her, she finds herself increasingly entangled in a web of deception where no one’s motives are easily decipherable.

The Hallow (IFC Midnight) - November 5th

Deep within the darkness of secluded forest land in rural Ireland dwells an ancient evil. Feared by the nearby superstitious villagers as cursed creatures who prey upon the lost, their secrets have been kept from civilization and remain on their hallowed ground. But when a conservationist from London moves in with his wife and infant child in order to survey the land for future construction, his actions unwittingly disturb the horde of demonic forces. Alone in a remote wilderness, he must now ensure his family's survival from their relentless attacks.

With his feature debut, acclaimed visual stylist Corin Hardy displays an innate talent for the macabre, approaching the medium with a cocksure confidence in his construction of the modern horror fable. Relying upon a precise and layered technical elegance, The Hallow seethes with an uncommonly sophisticated terror that uncoils effortlessly into an atmosphere of disquieting intensity and primal dread.

Wrecker (XLRator Media) - November 6th

Best friends Emily and Lesley go on a road trip to the desert. When Emily decides to get off the highway and take a “short cut,” they become the target of a relentless and psychotic trucker who forces them to play a deadly game of cat and mouse.

Deep Dark (Uncork’d Entertainment) - November 10th

Hermann, a failed sculptor, is about to kill himself when he finds a strange, talking hole in the wall. The creature in the hole (Denise Poirier, the voice of ÆON FLUX) has the power to fulfill his wildest dreams, but things go horribly wrong; and when the killing starts, Hermann is thrust into the worst nightmare of his life. Deep Dark is a twisted tale warning you to be careful what you wish for because it just might get you.

Rock ’N Roll Frankenstein (Camp Motion Pictures) - November 10th

After music agent Bernie Stein loses his last act, he decides the only way to a better life is through the grave… the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame graveyard, that is. Together with a burned out roadie and a mad scientist, the motley crew set out to build the perfect rock n’ roll superstar from the remains of dead rockers. Assembling parts from Elvis, Hendrix, Sid Vicious, and others, soon enough the monster is ALIVE!

But things go bad when Liberace’s love tool mistakenly ends up in the mix. Equipped with the head of Elvis and the junk of Lee, a schizo relationship develops between the monster and his privates.

Condemned (RLJ Entertainment) - November 13th

Fed up with her parents’ bickering, poor-little-rich-girl Maya (Dylan Penn) moves in with her boyfriend who is squatting in an old, condemned building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. With neighbors that are meth heads, junkies and degenerates, this depraved hell hole is even more toxic than it appears: After a virus born from their combined noxious waste and garbage infects the building’s residents, one by one, they succumb to a terrifying pathogen that turns them into bloodthirsty, rampaging killers and transforms their building into a savage slaughterhouse.

Crumbs (IndiePix Films) - November 17th

Set against the background of spectacular, wild, and desolate Ethiopian landscapes, CRUMBS introduces audiences to a strange-looking scrap collector, Gagano (played by the charismatic Daniel Tadesse). Alternately gripped by daydreams and constant fears, the diminutive Gagano has had enough of collecting the priceless crumbs of decayed civilization – Teenage Mutant Ninja amulets, toy ray guns, and Superman costumes — including the most valuable: merchandise from Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. Meanwhile, his true love, Birdy (Selam Tesfaye), pines for him in the abandoned bowling alley they’ve colonized.

When a spaceship that has been hovering high in the sky for years starts showing signs of activity, Gagano has to overcome his fears – as well as a witch, Santa Claus, and second-generation Nazis — to discover things aren’t quite the way he thought.

#Horror (IFC Midnight)- November 20th

You’ve got followers… Cyberbullying goes offline during one deadly night. Based on a shocking true story, #HORROR follows a group of girls living in a suburban world of money and privilege. But when their obsession with a disturbing online game goes too far, virtual terror becomes all too real. Chloë Sevigny leads an ensemble cast that includes Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, and Timothy Hutton in Tara Subkoff’s directorial debut.

Applesauce (Dark Sky Films) - November 24th

Every Tuesday night, radio talk show host Stevie Bricks invites his listeners to call in and share “the worst thing they’ve ever done.” Tonight Ron Welz (writer/director Tukel) is ready to share his story, but soon after he confesses on the air, someone starts sending him severed body parts. Ron becomes paranoid and terrified. His life begins to unravel. His marriage begins to fall apart. He has no idea who’s tormenting him. Is it his insolent high school student? Is it his best friend? His own wife? In a city like New York, there are eight million suspects, and each one could have a bone to pick with someone like Ron.

Take dark comedy, mix it with noir, and you have one of the most original and unusual movies of the year.
