Poltergeist Remake Release Date Bumped Up to May 22nd, 2015

They're going to be here earlier than expected. The evil spirits in the Bowen home apparently cannot wait to be unleashed on a new generation of moviegoers, as 20th Century Fox has changed the release date of their Poltergeist remake from July 24th to May 22nd.

"Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever."

The new release date is according to Box Office Mojo. Directed by Gil Kenan off a screenplay by David Lindsay-Abaire, and produced by Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, and Roy Lee, the Poltergeist remake stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, Jane Adams, Saxon Sharbino, Kennedi Clements, and Kyle Catlett. Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt star as the Bowen parents and their children are played by Sharbino, Clements and Catlett. Harris plays the star of a TV show titled Haunted House Cleaners and Adams plays a parapsychologist that tries to help the Bowens.

A remake of the 1982 film of the same name that was directed by Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre) and produced and co-written by Steven Spielberg, Poltergeist is rated PG-13 and will hit theaters in 2D and 3D on May 22nd. Also due out that month is Somnia (May 8th), Mad Max: Fury Road (May 15th), and The Vatican Tapes (May 22nd).
