R.L. Stine to Appear at BookCon

2014/04/03 16:09:20 +00:00 | Derek Anderson

R.L. Stine, the master of macabre on the YA shelves of libraries both public and private, will appear at BookCon on May 31st at the Javits Center in New York City.

Referenced as “perhaps the best-selling children’s author of the 20th century” by Stephen King, Stine made his first foray into horror in 1986 with Blind Date, the first book in the Point Horror line. He hasn’t stopped writing in the genre since. He went on to write over 100 books in his own Fear Street series, and in 1992 Stine started a children’s horror book series called Goosebumps. Readers around the globe have gobbled up over 300 million copies of Goosebumps since it started its monthly run with Scholastic 21 years ago. And like its sister series, Goosebumps got a lot of kids interested in reading. Even though creepy creations like Slappy the Dummy and the Haunted Mask kept kids up at night, they also enhanced the literacy of a generation.

It’s only fitting, then, that Stine will be a guest alongside the legendary likes of Stan Lee and John Grisham at BookCon. Stine will be signing autographs at the first-ever BookCon, a celebration of both literature and pop culture. The show floor will be open from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, with panels running from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The Javits Center is located at 655 West 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan, NYC.

So if you want to meet the man who has not only staked a big claim on the horror genre’s memory lane, but who also still churns out horror titles for children, young adults, and adults who grew up on his work, make sure you’re in Manhattan on May 31st. Shake Stine’s hand, get his autograph, and maybe even have your picture taken with him. If you’re lucky, he’ll tell you to “say cheese and die!”

About the Author - Derek Anderson

Raised on a steady diet of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Derek has been fascinated with fear since he first saw ForeverWare being used on an episode of Eerie, Indiana.

When he’s not writing about horror as the Senior News Reporter for Daily Dead, Derek can be found daydreaming about the Santa Carla Boardwalk from The Lost Boys or reading Stephen King and Brian Keene novels.
