Back in October of 2015, horror fans who have a soft spot for Shadyside received an early Halloween treat when it was reported that a Fear Street movie was in the works at 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment. Since that autumn, the news front on the project has been relatively quiet, but R.L. Stine himself recently broke that silence during a Twitter Q&A.

On the evening of February 7th, Stine answered questions from fans on his Twitter page, and when he was asked about the Fear Street movie, he tweeted this response:

"The Fear Street movie is in production. Yaaay. Now we are waiting for a good script. Watch for it next year, I think."

When another fan inquired about which Fear Street novel the film will be based on, Stine revealed some interesting (and surprising) news:

"The Fear Street movie will be an original story. There may be MORE THAN ONE Fear Street movie!"

If you're a horror fan who grew up in the ’90s, there's a good chance you were at least partially raised on Stine's Fear Street books, a series aimed at giving teenagers a good scare beginning in the late ’80s before it came to a (temporary) close in the late ’90s, eventually resuming with new novels in 2014.

In addition to the Fear Street movie, a sequel to 2015's Goosebumps is scheduled to haunt theaters on January 26th, 2018, via Sony Pictures.

Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates, and check out Stine's Twitter responses below, one of which teases a new Fear Street book called You May Kill the Bride.
