Cooties and Black Swan Vinyl Soundtracks: "DEATH WALTZ

Cooties - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP. Music Composed by Kreng. Artwork by Jay Shaw. Mondo Web Exclusive: 425 gsm sleeve and pressed on 180 gram Chicken Nugget & Blood Splatter vinyl. On sale Wednesday (11/11). $25.

Cooties is an absolutely huge sounding record with playful playground melodies mixed with some of the best retro synth work composed this year. The reason this score stands head and shoulders above other 80s-referencing soundtracks released in 2015 is his use of instrumentation and his ear for melody. While other composers are often content just letting minimal Carpenter-esque synth work do the talking, Kreng layers his tracks with plenty of organic instruments and weaves melodies in and out of the main themes. In doing this, he manages to create a very rare beast; a modern synth score with a very distinct personality that - while familiar - holds interest over multiple listens.

MONDO

Black Swan - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP. Music by Clint Mansell. Featuring original artwork by Sam Wolfe Connelly and an all-new interview with composer Clint Mansell. Mondo Web Exclusive - Disc 1: 180 Gram Clear Vinyl with White swirl, Disc 2: 180 Gram Clear Vinyl with Blue & Black Swirl. Also available on 2XLP 180 Gram Black Vinyl. Cut at 45RPM for optimum sound quality. On sale Wednesday (11/11). $35.

Clint Mansell's score for Darren Aronofsky's film Black Swan (2010) is a unique creature in itself, adapting Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and deconstructing it into a modern film score for a twisted fairy tale. Purists may cringe at the idea of modifying Tchaikovsky's seminal work, but it honestly results in one of the most unique and resonant film scores of the last 10 years, and easily one of the most remarkable examples of music adaptation in a film to date.

About the Author - Tamika Jones

Tamika hails from North Beach, Maryland, a tiny town inches from the Chesapeake Bay.She knew she wanted to be an actor after reciting a soliloquy by Sojourner Truth in front of her entire fifth grade class. Since then, she's appeared in over 20 film and television projects. In addition to acting, Tamika is the Indie Spotlight manager for Daily Dead, where she brings readers news on independent horror projects every weekend.

The first horror film Tamika watched was Child's Play. Being eight years old at the time, she remembers being so scared when Chucky came to life that she projectile vomited. It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
