After the success of Sinister this weekend, it has been announced that Scott Derrickson will team up again with Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse for an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Breathing Method.
The Breathing Method is a novella that was part of Stephen King’s Different Seasons, which also included Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, and The Body (Stand by Me). Released in 1982, the story “takes place in an exclusive gentlemen’s club in New York, where no one pays any dues. Membership is based upon a telling of tales, and one nightmarish tale about a disgraced woman determined to give birth–no matter the consequences.”
According to Deadline, they have optioned the book from Stephen King and Scott Teems has been hired to write the script. This is an early announcement, so a budget, casting, and a release date have yet to be finalized. This is one of multiple Stephen King projects in various stages of development. We have Carrie which is set to be released early next year, Tom Holland directing the The Ten O’Clock People, and possible features based on IT, The Stand, and The Dark Tower.
