Many horror fans are familiar with the Soska sisters, the directing duo behind 2012's American Mary and the upcoming See No Evil 2. Fans of American Mary should be pleased to learn that Jen and Sylvia Soska now have their next project in sight: an adaptation of the comic book series, Painkiller Jane.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the Soska sisters have signed on to helm a feature film adaptation of the comic originally created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada for Event Comics in 1995, with Palmiotti as one of the producers. For those unfamiliar with the comic book, recently relaunched by Dynamite Entertainment, here's the synopsis via THR:

"Jane centers on the titular heroine, a cop, who, along with with her best friend and partner, goes undercover into an interconnected drug ring. When her identity is exposed, Jane is tortured, which leaves her with preternatural regenerating abilities and a high tolerance for pain."

The strong female characters and gritty plot seem like a perfect fit for the Soska sisters, who made a splash with their 2009 film, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, and continued to grow a cult audience with 2012's American Mary.

Painkiller Jane has been adapted twice before by the SyFy Channel, first in the 2005 TV movie starring Emmanuelle Vaugier and then as a TV series in 2007 that featured Kristanna Loken and was cancelled after one season.

The Soska sisters will be appearing at Comic-Con today at a See No Evil 2 panel and signing and we'll have live coverage of the event, so be sure to check back frequently for more updates on See No Evil 2 and the Soska sisters. If you missed them, here are the details on their Comic-Con panel:

On Thursday, July 24th an autograph signing of a convention exclusive two-sided poster by Jen and Sylvia Soska, Glenn “Kane” Jacobs, Danielle Harris, and Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl will take place at Lionsgate’s booth #4045 from 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Following the signing, the panel will begin in Room #7AB at 7pm.
