Every second counted in 2011's Source Code, Duncan Jones' sci-fi thriller that starred Jake Gyllenhaal as a soldier stuck in a taxing time loop, continually receiving eight minutes to find and stop a bomber from destroying a commuter train and potentially a big part of Chicago. Fans of the film may pleased to hear that a sequel is in the works with Outlander director Anna Foerster set to take the reigns.

According to Variety, The Mark Gordon Company and Vendome Pictures—the production companies behind the first film—are moving forward on a sequel to Source Code, currently referred to as Source Code 2, with the original movie's scribe, Ben Ripley, returning to pen the project and Anna Foerster (Starz's Outlander, Criminal Minds) attached to direct. In addition to her experience behind the camera on TV shows, Foerster has worked in the visual effects department on films such as Independence Day and Pitch Black.

No actors or distributors have signed on to Source Code 2 at this time. Summit distributed the original Source Code film in 2011, which made $147 million worldwide (off a budget of approximately $30 million), was directed by Duncan Jones (who is currently working on the post-production stage of his new film Warcraft, based on the popular online game, World of Warcraft), and starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan and Jeffrey Wright. We'll keep Daily Dead readers posted on further developments.
