While making the press rounds for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller revealed a promising update and new details regarding the long-percolating next Friday the 13th film, including a familiar face that is expected to appear in the Jason Voorhees "origin-ish" story.

Speaking with The Reel Word, Fuller confirmed that he has received the new Friday the 13th screenplay written by Aaron Guzikowski (the upcoming Wolf Man reboot, Prisoners) and explained why this latest screenplay for the film is the right one to move forward with:

"Aaron's story has great characters, and I think that in the same way that you have to relate to the turtles [in Platinum Dunes' new TMNT movie], you kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees. So we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward."

Fuller went on to mention that Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees, will appear in the new movie, which is set to be somewhat of an origin story with elements that Friday the 13th fans have not experienced yet in the franchise:

"[It's] origin-ish, but it's an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela's there, but it's a little bit different from what you've seen before."

The new Friday the 13th film is set for a January 13th, 2017 release from Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates.
