The remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria has long been in limbo, but with the directing reigns on the film being passed from David Gordon Green to Luca Guadagnino last year, new progress on the project is now being made, as a recent Q&A with Guadagnino reveals key casting for the movie.

According to a recent tweet (via Bloody Disgusting) by film journalist Alex Heller-Nicholas, Guadagnino revealed in a Q&A that Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive, Snowpiercer) and Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, Black Mass) are lined up to star in the Suspiria remake that will be set in Berlin circa 1977.

Heller-Nicholas' tweet about the Q&A also mentions that Guadagnino would like John Adams to compose the music for the remake, which he says will be "the most Fassbinderian of his films" (a reference to writer/director/actor Rainer Werner Fassbinder).

Swinton and Johnson recently starred in Guadagnino's A Bigger Splash, and Swinton has also appeared prominently in two other projects from Guadagnino: I Am Love and The Protagonists. Guadagnino has previously worked with Adams as well, who composed the music for I Am Love.

In a 2015 interview with Empire, Guadagnino revealed that his version of Suspiria will be "very different" from Argento's original movie, which followed a new member at a ballet academy where all is not as it seems and murder becomes a common occurrence. Here's what Guadagnino told Empire about his take on Suspiria:

"[My version] is going to be set in Berlin in 1977. It’s going to be about the mother and the concept of motherhood and about the uncompromising force of motherhood. It’s going to be about finding your inner voice – the title is very evocative on these grounds."

We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on the Suspiria remake as more details are revealed. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the new take of Argento's cult classic?
