“I’ll be back.” Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cyborg warrior will make good on that promise next summer when Paramount unleashes Terminator: Genisys to theaters. While familiar characters like Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese will be played by new faces, Arnold brings his stalwart screen presence to the franchise's next chapter, as mentioned in the film's recently revealed plot details accompanied by new photos.

In their first look at the next installment of the Terminator franchise, EW debuted a photo of Emilia Clarke's Sarah Connor with Jai Courtney's Kyle Reese on a motorcycle and another picture featuring Jason Clarke's John Connor next to Matt Smith (Doctor Who) with the T-800 endoskeleton lurking behind them.

The official plot details revealed in the new issue of EW mention that Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a T-800 that has raised and protected Sarah Connor since she was orphaned as a child:

"Sarah Connor isn’t the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton’s steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991’s T2. Rather, the mother of humanity’s messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion."

Terminator: Genisys hits theaters on July 1st, 2015 and is directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game of Thrones). Terminator 2 is due out on May 19th, 2017, and Terminator 3 is slated for release on June 29th, 2018, and the plan is for both reboot sequels to film back-to-back.

“The new film is written by Laeta Kalogridis (“AVATAR,” “SHUTTER ISLAND”) and Patrick Lussier (“DRIVE ANGRY”). David Ellison and Dana Goldberg (“WORLD WAR Z,” “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS”) of Skydance Productions are producing. Executive producers are Skydance’s Paul Schwake (“WORLD WAR Z,” “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS”), Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison (“AMERICAN HUSTLE,” “HER”), Kalogridis and Lussier.

“TERMINATOR” stars Arnold Schwarzenegger (“THE EXPENDABLES 1 & 2,” “TERMINATOR 1, 2 & 3”), Jason Clarke (“THE GREAT GATSBY,” “ZERO DARK THIRTY”), Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Jai Courtney (“DIVERGENT,” “JACK REACHER”), J.K. Simmons (“MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN,” “UP IN THE AIR”), Dayo Okeniyi (“THE HUNGER GAMES,” “THE SPECTACULAR NOW”), and Byung Hun Lee (“RED 2,” “G.I. JOE: RETALIATION”).

The “TERMINATOR” franchise launched in 1984 with Schwarzenegger as the title character and spanned three subsequent films, which have earned more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Paramount will distribute the film worldwide on July 1, 2015.”
