A secretive recurring role has been cast for the second half of AMC's The Walking Dead Season 6.

TVLine reports that Xander Berkeley has been cast as a character who will first appear in the latter half of The Walking Dead Season 6. Sources tell TVLine that Berkeley's character is a narcissist with a "huge ego" and strong sense of "self-preservation." Berkeley's character supposedly relishes "the superiority that comes with being in control, but he plays it off with a car salesman-type charm."

Readers of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic book series may feel that these personality traits describe the swearing, baseball bat swinging, darkly comedic antagonist Negan, but TVLine states that their sources insist Negan is not the character Berkeley will portray. That denial, of course, could be a bluff to keep some camouflage on the casting, but only time will tell. Based on the character's descriptions, some readers of the comics may also believe that Berkeley could play Gregory.

According to TVLine, Berkeley's contract with The Walking Dead contains an option to become a series regular in Season 7. We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details as they surface.

Berkeley's been a prolific actor over the past three and a half decades, appearing in a multitude of movies including Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Kick-Ass, and Taken. His TV credits include roles in Salem, 24NikitaZoo, 12 Monkeys, Being Human, Aaahh!! Real Monsters, The X-Files, and more.
