TV Land is stepping into the hostile halls of high school with their pilot episode order of a new anthology TV series based on the 1988 cult film Heathers.

According to THR, the pilot episode of Heathers will be directed by Leslye Headland (Sleeping with Other People, Bachelorette) from a script by Jason Micallef (Butter). Executive produced by Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, the series—should it move forward—is expected to focus on new groups of "Heathers" with its anthology format, likely on a season-by-season structure.

The pilot episode of Heathers will follow a clique of similarly named high school students who sit atop the student body food chain. Filming on the dark comedy pilot is slated to start this fall with a single-camera shooting style.

Directed by Michael Lehmann from a screenplay by Daniel Waters, the original Heathers film starred Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannen Doherty.

We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on a Heathers TV series?
