Indie Spotlight

2012/08/12 17:23:30 +00:00 | Jonathan James

We're back with our largest Indie Spotlight to date. Today's feature contains over a dozen indie horror items, including details on The Other Side and your chance to win a copy of City Under the Moon:

The Other Side: We're sent dozens of short films to check out each month, but The Other Side really stands out from the pack. This short horror film is directed by The Santoro Brothers and it is apparent that they are skilled directors who are also true fans of the genre. The Other Side will be hitting the festival/convention circuit shortly, and we expect it to play really well with slasher and home invasion horror fans.

Synopsis: "When a fresh faced nanny arrives at her new job on a creaky farm in the English countryside, she is instantly caught up in the turbulent relationship of her employers. James is struggling to provide for his family and Rachel, an inexperienced mother, is unable to cope with the demands of her new born baby. Unaware of his wife’s decision to hire help, a disgruntled James leaves them alone in the secluded farmhouse. When night falls and he fails to return, a sinister intruder invades the property, unraveling a night of gruesome blood-shed and unprecedented terror. But who is behind it? What do they want? Can anybody escape alive?"

The Other Side is directed by Alex & Oli Santoro and stars Nick Moran, Amelia Warner and Jennie Jacques. The first stop for this film will be Screamfest LA in October, but if you don't think you'll be able to see it during a horror convention or festival, we're told to that it will be released early next year. There is also a chance that this concept could be expanded into a full feature, based on the fan reaction to the film, of course, securing funding.

We've included the official trailer below, and can check out the full poster art and learn more about The Other Side at: http://theothersidefilm.co.uk/

Railway Children: "The world has been devastated by a virus that has decimated the adult population leaving small children and teenagers to roam the scarred landscape attempting to form some kind of society with dramatic and violent results. Sisters Evie (Catherine Wrigglesworth) and Fran (Emily Forster) have been travelling from town to town, gathering food and finding accommodation as they move from place to place. They keep to themselves; Evie reading chapters from E. Nesbit’s classic children's story ‘The Railway Children' to her little sister in an attempt to bring a sense of normality to their bleak existence - the novel was a favourite bedtime read as both girls were growing up; their mother their favourite reader. Finding overnight shelter in a derelict building, the sisters soon settle down only to be awoken by shouts from another room. Investigating, Evie witnesses the beating of a girl. She watches in horror until the mob leaves the building and the girl behind. Tentatively going to her aid, the girl whom Evie discovers is called Alice (Justine Rodgers) leads them to a large building at the edge of the city from where they hear singing coming from a basement window. They investigate . . .

. . .so begins a battle of wills between newcomers and those holding tenuous threads of a commune civilisation together; add to this further invidious threats from two of the girls’ darker pasts and an already tense atmosphere is soon to explode into disturbing violence and bloodshed."

Keep an eye out for Railway Children on the festival circuit, with a possible VOD release in the near future. Here is the official poster for the film:

Creep Creeprsin's Dracula: "Creep Creepersin’s Dracula is a very modern take on not just the story of Dracula but also the legacy that the story has left on our society. We begin our tale inside a huge mansion where Dracula (Peter Stickles) has been kept for many years. His only visitors are his servant, Dwight (Bruce L. Hart) and his physician Dr. Van Sloan (Domiziano Arcangeli). Dracula’s estranged wife Francine (Elina Madison) also pays him visits but more so to mock him. Something is very wrong with Dracula and through this film, we find out what that mysterious illness is. All we know is that there is a change happening to him that is making his thirst grow much more rapidly.

Dwight takes care of Dracula by bringing him new “guests” to feed off of. But over the years, the act of feeding has made Dracula nauseated so he and Dwight have been trying to find new, “less intrusive” ways to feed. Dracula is also disgusted with type of people Dwight has been bringing to the house for him mainly prostitutes and transients. That is until Dwight brings home a quick witted hitchhiker named Helen (Elissa Dowling) who immediately peaks Dracula’s interest and he allows her to be spared in order for him to have some descent company. With Helen’s help, Dracula uncovers the mystery of his illness, and many other secrets that will change the course of his “undead” life forever."
