The director of The Crazies remake might be heading to Camp Crystal Lake, as Variety reports that Breck Eisner (The Last Witch Hunter) is in talks to helm the 13th film of the Jason Voorhees franchise.

While we have yet to hear official confirmation from Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes regarding a finalized deal, it looks like Eisner could be the one to bring Jason back to the big screen for the first time since 2009. David Bruckner (The Signal) was at one time lined up to direct the new movie, back when a screenplay was being worked on by Nick Antosca (The Forest).

Should Eisner get the gig, he would direct from a screenplay by Aaron Guzikowski’s (Prisoners). The new Friday the 13th is currently scheduled for a January 13th, 2017 release from Paramount Pictures.

Plot details are largely unknown at this time, although producer Brad Fuller did reveal that the new film will explore more of Jason's backstory, which could include more insights into his family life, such as his relationship with his father, Elias. We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on more details as they are unveiled. In the meantime, what do you think of Eisner directing a new Friday the 13th film?
