Marvel has been making headlines with their recent Phase Three movie lineup announcements and the reveal of new Civil War and Secret Wars comic book storylines to be published next year. But keeping their caped crusaders in the spotlight are the folks at DC, who announced their respective slate of films and have now revealed the details of Convergence, their own major comic book storyline hitting shelves in 2015.

USA Today reports that Convergence will make good use of DC's multiverse. For those not familiar, DC has featured different versions of their superheroes existing in parallel worlds, perhaps most memorably in 1985's 12-issue series, Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Spanning nine weeks in April and May of 2015 and comprising 40 two-part miniseries from a slew of writers and artists, Convergence follows the events of Earth 2: World's End and The New 52: Futures End and will see superheroes and villains from multiple decades and different dimensions meld together when their cities and planets are transported to a new world in a faraway realm of existence by the villain Brainiac.

Fans will witness heroes, villains, and plots from DC Comics' 80-year history reignited and placed in a new position of peril unlike anything DC has attempted before, with generational gaps not only being bridged, but colliding and interacting on the page. For example, readers could see the Silver Age Batman fight alongside Batman from The New 52 line that launched in 2011.

Contrasting the hundreds of familiar faces will be one big new one: that of the fresh antagonist known as Telos, a creation of sorts from Brainiac who ultimately grows into his own evil independence. Judging by his introduction in this special storyline brimming with superpowers aplenty, expect Telos to be a formidable foe capable of awesome abilities.

With a story this massive demanding attention from a lot of creative minds, DC will halt production of their regular titles for the approximately two-month period in which Convergence will come out. Overseeing the central storyline is Jeff King, executive producer and lead writer on USA's White Collar (with previous experience on sci-fi shows Stargate SG-1 and Continuum also under his belt), who is making his first foray into the comic book world.

Scott Lobdell (Superman comic book) will also be lending a hand overseeing the ambitious story, while Dan Jurgens (of The New 52: Future's End) is co-penning the zero issue of Convergence with King. The zero issue is due out next April 1st, kicking off a new story with an impressive number of heroes, villains, and plotlines that the DC team hopes will delight longtime readers while also attracting new fans to their brave new world.
