We've had a number of news items related to the Evil Dead remake this week and we have one more to add to the list. Sony Pictures has locked in the Evil Dead remake for a 2013 release date. Although the movie is expected to start filming in March, 2012, we won't be seeing the film until April 12th, 2013. The casting process is currently underway and filming will be taking place in New Zealand.

Fede Alvarez is directing the remake and wrote the original script, along with Rodo Sayagues. Back in July, it was announced that Diablo Cody had been hired to polish up the script. Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell are producing.

“Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”
