Created as part of Justin Lin's YOMFYOM contest, Jimmy Lui's (of Black Mast Studios) The Hopping Dead aims to terrify its audience to the bone. Watch Jimmy Lui's Short Film The Hopping Dead: "The film was shot for Justin Lin’s YOMFYOM filmmakers competition. It’s an homage to cult John Carpenter films like “Big Trouble in Little China and “They Live.” There’s also a nod to the classic old martial arts films featuring Sammo Hung. Lin’s competition had 2 rules. The film had to be less than 3 minutes running time and we could only use 4 lines of pre-selected dialogue — other than that there were no stipulations.

Synopsis: Two thieves break into a Chinese business only to stumble upon the terror that is the Chinese Jiang-shi, a corpse reanimated as a vampire by Chinese black magic that, because of rigor mortis, chases after its victims by hopping.

Don’t move. Don’t scream. Don’t even breathe. The Hopping Dead.

Written and directed by Jimmy Lui of Black Mast Studios, The Hopping Dead stars Ken Lally, Michael J. Knowles, PeiPei Alena Yuan, and Samuel Yu.
