Welcome to another horror/sci-fi round-up! This time around we have word of two big cast confirmations for Independence Day 2, details on Scream Factory's Deep in the Darkness Blu-ray / DVD release, and information on the new Blanc/Biehn Productions film, Treachery.

Independence Day 2: Last night it was revealed that the first official cast member had signed on to star in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2, the sequel to his 1996 film that featured massive alien-induced destruction and larger-than-life characters. It's now been confirmed that one of those characters will be coming back, as Emmerich tweeted last night that Jeff Goldblum will appear in the sequel, likely reprising his role as the brainy and dryly humorous David Levinson, who teamed up with fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller to take down the mothership in the original film. Smith will not be coming back to reprise his role as Steven.

In that same tweet, Emmerich revealed that Liam Hemsworth, rumored for a while now to be playing the son-in-law to Bill Pullman's character, Thomas J. Whitmore (the President of the United States in the 1996 film), will officially be in the sequel, though his specific role has not yet been confirmed.

Jessie Usher, meanwhile, will "play a central character in the new film and also the son of [Will] Smith’s character." There's no official word yet on whether Usher will portray an adult version of the young boy Dylan from the first film (the eventual step-son of Smith's character), or if he'll play a different son altogether. Ross Bagley played Dylan in the original film.

Independence Day 2 is slated to hit theaters from 20th Century Fox on June 24th, 2016. Roland Emmerich, the director of the original Independence Day, will direct off a script by James Vanderbilt and Carter Blanchard (who was hired for rewrites). Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser are producing the project alongside Emmerich.
