We've known that Cabin Fever: Patient Zero will be released in the UK on March 17th, but we hadn't heard anything about the US release until now. Image Entertainment has acquired the movie and plans to release it to US theaters and VOD services this summer. There are no details on a Blu-ray or DVD release, but we expect that will take place in the fall. As soon as any dates are announced, we'll be sure to update this story.

*Updated with official press release:

"LOS ANGELES (Feb. 27, 2014) – Image Entertainment, an RLJ Entertainment (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand, acquires the U.S. distribution rights to the next installment to the cult hit CABIN FEVER. The horror/thriller CABIN FEVER: PATIENT ZERO was directed by Kaare Andrews (Altitude and The ABCs of Death) and stars Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Currie Graham (Pompeii, “NYPD Blue”), Ryan Donowho (Soldiers of Fortune), Mitch Ryan (“One Tree Hill”) and Jillian Murray (Bad Ass). Image Entertainment will release the film on video-on-demand and in theaters summer 2014. The announcement was made today by Image Entertainment’s Chief Acquisition Officer, Bill Bromiley.

“Eli Roth’s original CABIN FEVER was a smashing success, establishing a huge cult following,” said Bromiley. “We are proud to be a part of this franchise, distributing the third installment under the vision of Kaare Andrew. His commitment to stay true to this series will keep audiences wanting more.”

CABIN FEVER: PATIENT ZERO tells the story of a group of friends enjoying a bachelor weekend in a yacht in the Caribbean. As they run ashore to explore a remote island, they stumble upon an abandoned research facility, where a massacre from a deadly virus is unleashed. They must find a way to survive before the flesh eating disease consumes them all. Their answer – an uninfected survivor: “Patient Zero.”

CABIN FEVER: PATIENT ZERO was written Jake Wade Wall (The Hitcher) and produced by original CABIN FEVER producer Evan Astrowsky.

The deal was negotiated by Mark Ward for Image Entertainment and Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard with Voltage Pictures and Indomina Productions on behalf of the filmmakers."
