Ahead of its world premiere in Venice and its upcoming screenings at TIFF, Well Go USA announced that it has acquired North American distribution rights to Rigor Mortis:

"Amsterdam/Hong Kong, Aug 30th, 2013. In a pre-emptive move prior to it's World Premiere in Venice, Fortissimo Films has closed an all rights deal for North America with Well Go USA Entertainment, for the upcoming and highly anticipated RIGOR MORTIS; the debut feature from Hong Kong's multi-talented celebrity, Juno Mak. A re-imagining of the popular 1970/80's Chinese Vampire (Geung Si) genre, the filmwill have an early November rollout in Hong Kong followed by the rest of Asia.

Co-produced by Japanese horror icon Takeshi Shimizu (JU-ON, THE GRUDGE), RIGOR MORTIS will receive its World Premier at the upcoming Venice Film Festival (Venice Days) followed by its presentation at Toronto's Midnight Madness. Well Go is planning a multi-platform release in early 2014.

The deal was negotiated between Fortissimo's Executive Vice President, Sales and Acquisitions, Winnie Lau, and Well Go's President, Doris Pfardrescher.

On making the announcement, Lau commented, "Juno is truly one of the most original filmmakers coming from Hong Kong in recent years. With his debut feature, he has announced himself as a must-see director. We are thrilled that Well Go USA has joined us to handle RIGOR MORTIS in North America."

'RIGOR MORTIS has such a terrifying and beautiful esthetic, and style and we are proud to bring it to North America where it will find its audience and fans', said Doris Pfardrescher of Well Go USA, 'Once again, Well Go is bringing a groundbreaking and highly commercial Asian movie to the US and Canadian audience.'

The two companies have worked together in the past with Well Go previously acquiring Fortissimo's 3-D features, TORMENTED and SHOCK LABYRINTH, as well as TOUCH OF THE LIGHT, Taiwan's foreign language Oscar® entry of last year.

Synopsis: In this eerie and chilling, contemporary, action/special effects laden homage to the classic Chinese vampire movies of the 1980's, writer-director-producer, Juno Mak makes his feature directorial debut. Co-produced by J-Horror icon Takashi Shimizu, and reuniting some of the original cast members of the classic MR VAMPIRE series, RIGOR MORTIS is set in a creepy and moody Hong Kong public housing tower whose occupants we soon discover, run the gamut from the living to the dead, to the undead, along with ghosts, vampires and zombies.

RIGOR MORTIS stars action movie veteran Chin Siu-ho as a former vampire- hunting actor who now finds himself reaching the end of the line as a washed-up star, separated from his wife and alienated from his son. Down on his luck and with barely a dollar to his name, he checks into room 2442 in the housing estate. His aim is to end his misery by doing himself in, but instead Siu-ho is interrupted by some of the other "occupants" of the building including a Taoist master-exorcist (Anthony Chan), a traumatized housewife with a tragic past (Kara Hui), as well as a seemingly benign elderly woman (Paw Hee-ching) who has an empty coffin conspicuously hanging in the middle of her apartment.

Soon it becomes apparent to Siu-ho that the people around him and the situation are far from normal. Despite his lack of belief in superstition, Siu-ho is soon thrust into the battle of his life as vicious vampires with unsettled business begin to rise from the dead..."
