Shrouded in shadows, Doom-Head is featured in creepy fashion in the first still from Rob Zombie's 31. Also included in our latest round-up is a casting update for the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and an exclusive excerpt from Doug Lavers’ sci-fi thriller, Rekindling of Hope.

Rob Zombie's 31: Played by Richard Brake, Doom-Head dominates the first official still from Rob Zombie's 31 (see below). Since the news broke earlier this month that Malcolm McDowell had joined the cast of 31 as Father Murder, more actors have joined the film's ranks:

  • Pancho Moler (2005's Bad News Bears, American Horror Story: Freak Show) plays Sick-Head.
  • Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem, Halloween 2) portrays Roscoe, "the ass-kicking carney mechanic of Venus Virgo’s traveling show."
  • Jane Carr (Curb Your Enthusiasm, How I Met Your Mother) plays Sister Serpent, "a wicked cross of Satan meets Mother Goose."
  • Ginger Lynn (The Devil's Rejects) plays Cherry Bomb, "a very special friend of our main man DOOM-HEAD."
  • Richard Brake (Thor: The Dark World, Mob City) portrays Doom-Head, "the deadliest man alive."
  • Lew Temple (The Walking Dead, The Devil's Rejects) plays Psycho-Head, "the even more insane brother of Schizo-Head. These two together are nothing but bloody mayhem."

The new arrivals join a cast that includes:

  • Judy Geeson (The Lords of Salem, To Sir, with Love) as Sister Dragon, one-third of Murder World's management team.
  • David Ury (Breaking Bad, Grimm) as Schizo-Head, one-half of a dangerous brother duo who prowl Murder World.
  • E.G. Daily (voice of Tommy Pickles in Rugrats, Valley Girl) as Sex-Head, Death-Head and Schizo-Head's partner in carnage.
  • Daniel Roebuck (The Devil's Rejects, The Fugitive) as Paster Victor, one of the kidnapped people brought to Murder World.
  • Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (Welcome Back, Kotter, Chance) as "Panda Thomas, the manager of a traveling roadshow known as "The Venus Lux Happy Time Fun Show.""
  • Torsten Voges (The Lords of Salem, The Big Lebowski) as Death-Head, the seven-foot tall Murder World killer and brother of Schizo-Head.

"Welcome to my next film. It is called 31. It is the story of five random people kidnapped on the five days leading up to Halloween and held hostage in a place called Murder World. While trapped inside this man-made Hell they must fight to survive playing the most violent game known to man... a game called 31.

31 has no rules. 31 has no boundaries. It is ever so simple. Do whatever you can do to kill your opponent before they kill you. Keep this up for 12 hours and freedom is yours.

Who are the opponents? Well... a group of vile, filthy, blood-thirsty clowns known as THE HEADS. They come in all shapes and sizes and each grows nastier than the last.

What kind of film is this you ask? It is a fast paced, mean dirty film for those who like it rough. Get ready for a sick piece of celluloid! This is some hardcore business for the blood-thirsty gore hounds."

From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series: Press Release - "Austin, TX- March 31, 2015 -- El Rey Network and Miramax announced today that Jeff Fahey (Lost, Justified, Texas Rising) has joined the sophomore season of Robert Rodriguez's "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" in a recurring role.Fahey has been cast in the role of "Uncle Eddie Cruickshank", the man who raised The Gecko Brothers after their father died in a fire; he runs a TV/appliance repair shop in Houston, Texas - but it's really a cover. Eddie is the guy who designs and sells scores. He doesn't do the jobs anymore, but when Seth and Richie show up, he gets a chance to get back in the game. The second season is currently in production in Austin, TX and set to return late summer, 2015. Jeff Fahey is represented by Jeff Goldberg of Jeff Goldberg Management.

Jeff Fahey's career, like many actors, started on stage. However, instead of local theater companies and independent play houses, Fahey first began performing as a dancer-at the age of 25 he was awarded a full ride at the Joffrey Ballet School. Soon after, he began performing in both off-Broadway and Broadway productions and television soap operas. His first major film role was in Silverado where he played Deputy Tyree, the right-hand man of a ruthless small town sheriff. On television, Fahey currently guest-starred in FX's final season of Justified, and he recently was a series regular in CBS's Under the Dome. Fahey is also appearing in History's upcoming mini-series Texas Rising starring Brendan Fraser and Bill Paxton, among others. He is best known from ABC's hit series Lost as well as his film roles in Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Machete.

Fahey joins the returning internationally renowned cast: D.J. Cotrona (Dear John, G.I. Joe: Retaliation); Zane Holtz (Holes, The Perks of Being a Wallflower); Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera, Sons of Anarchy); Eiza González (Lola: Érase Una Vez); Wilmer Valderrama (That '70s Show, To Whom It May Concern); Madison Davenport (Noah, Shameless); Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder, Ender's Game, Incredible Crew); Jake Busey (Motorcycle Gang, Contract); and recent cast additions Danny Trejo (Machete, Con Air), Esai Morales (Criminal Minds, NYPD Blue) and Briana Evigan (Step Up 2).

Season one of "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" centered on bank robber Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard "Richie" Gecko (Holtz), who were on the run to Mexico when they encountered former pastor Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick) and his family, who were taken hostage. Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensued when the group detoured to the Titty Twister, a strip club populated by culebras, snake-like ancient creatures who survive by drinking human blood. They were forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive.

Season two explores a new chapter in this supernatural crime saga that travels from Mexico to the edgy, tricked-out Texas of Robert Rodriguez. It also deepens and complicates the core relationships between the characters, while adding new faces and new dynamics. Season Two begins with our characters in their separate worlds - Santánico (González) and Richie (Holtz) are outside Houston, living like Bonnie and Clyde; Seth and Kate (Madison Davenport) are scraping by South of the Border; and Freddie Gonzalez (Jessie Garcia) is protecting his wife and young daughter in a Houston suburb. And Carlos Madrigal (Valderrama) and Scott Fuller (Brandon Soo Hoo) emerge from the Titty Twister, changed men. They will all come together once again - this time facing off against an even bigger threat.

"From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" is a Miramax production in association with Rodriguez International Pictures, FactoryMade Ventures, and Sugarcane Entertainment. Executive producers are Robert Rodriguez, Carlos Coto (also showrunner), Diego Gutierrez (also writer), FactoryMade Ventures and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa, and Miramax's Zanne Devine and Daniel Pipski.

Miramax is distributing "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" internationally in all territories."

Rekindling of Hope: Now available from Partridge Singapore is Doug Lavers' Rekindling of Hope, the first book in the Rejuvenation Trilogy, and we've been provided with an exclusive excerpt to share with Daily Dead readers.

"It is the year 2022. Planet Earth is in serious trouble, and an alien superintelligence called the Bearing has decided to intervene to stop humanity from imploding. The story traces the political and geophysical issues at play, while following the emotional lives of three key people involved in the plan to avoid disaster and save mankind in this dramatic science fiction novel.

A story of political warfare, shifting geographical and scientific schools of thought, sabotage, love, and a journey to worldwide reform, Rekindling of Hope promises nothing less than a spectacular view into the impending future of planet Earth, if completely new political and economic reforms cannot be achieved in time.

The book should be taken as a warning of what might happen if current political and economic problems are not addressed effectively.

This is the first book in the Rejuvenation Trilogy."

Excerpt:

"In a small town in North-western Pakistan, a group of men were gathered in the basement of a dusty mud brick house. They were dressed in traditional Shalwar kameez clothing and wore turbans. They were typical of many groups that had been described as anything from terrorists to freedom fighters, depending on the viewpoint of the commentator.

More realistically, they were Islamic fundamentalists with an absolute intolerance of anything or anyone who did not share their views. They were brave in their own way, being quite prepared to die for their views. They were typical of the people who had made invasion or control of their regions in Northwest Pakistan and Afghanistan extraordinarily difficult throughout history.

They had seen videos of the Habitat, which had aroused their fanatical loathing. The science and galaxy wide view it offered were anathema to them.

They were also particularly dangerous, being one of the groups who had managed to acquire several nuclear weapons when an arms depot in central Pakistan had been overrun.

After a long debate, they decided that the best way to give them a chance to return Pakistan to what they regarded as fundamentalist purity was to reduce the bulk of the country to chaos. They believed that their corner of the country was sufficiently isolated and self-sufficient to survive the resulting carnage.

With respect to the Habitat, they had received a message from an unknown source, accompanied with substantial funds and a plan, which would enable them to smuggle a nuclear weapon into Australia and use it in a particular manner. They realized that if the source knew enough to get this information to them, it could have arranged for their elimination by the Pakistani security forces. Since the plan offered them a prospect of successfully attacking their perceived enemy, they decided to follow the instructions.

* * *

The disaster in Pakistan escalated dramatically when a Pakistani terrorist group managed to smuggle a crude nuclear weapon into Mumbai using some stolen pure plutonium. By nuclear weapons standards, it had merely spluttered when it exploded, but almost a hundred thousand people had died. The Institute and Sheila orchestrated a massive relief effort, and Habitat shuttles brought in large quantities of basic medical equipment and antibiotics, including some new anti-radiation and anti-burn medicines.

Inevitably, the Indian government reacted with fury. Norman and the Sheila remote addressed the Indian Cabinet directly in Delhi. Previously briefed by Sheila, Norman had told the Indian government that the Habitat guaranteed that no nuclear-armed rockets would be allowed to be launched across the Indian and Pakistani border, and added "in either direction."

The debate that followed was heated, but the Indian Cabinet had finally been persuaded not to take any action.

A large part of the Indian Army was mobilized on the border, and cross-border traffic was completely stopped. The soldiers received orders to shoot anyone seen in the border area without warning.

In fact, a stolen missile was fired from Pakistan, but as on a previous occasion, its course was abruptly reversed, and this time it had landed and exploded on its source. The explosion was conventional, and it appeared that the warhead had been removed before impact.

Unfortunately, the same terrorist group also took a stolen nuclear bomb to Islamabad, and it detonated successfully. Four million people died, the Pakistani government was destroyed, and the country descended into complete chaos.

Peter had (for him) a heated debate with Sheila. "Sheila, isn't there anything we can do to locate and destroy the stray nuclear weapons?" he asked.

Sheila paused for a moment, and then said, quite softly, "I have a large number of small remotes crisscrossing most of the Pakistani cities. They can detect nuclear weapons from gamma radiation, but only from a short distance. Metallic interference and background radiation make the process inefficient. I have located several, and eliminated them, but there is a limit to the number of remotes I can deploy and manage successfully. Also, most of the nuclear weapons appear to have been stored in underground cellars. Traces of radioactive material in the surrounding soil, bricks, and rocks make them effectively undetectable. I can stop all visible macroscopic objects such as missiles. Unfortunately, if a weapon is disassembled and carried on the backs of terrorists at various locations on a border of several thousand kilometres, it is unstoppable."

Peter was forced to watch the wrenching process of a nation destroying itself. Although the initial death toll had only been a few million, a tidal wave of disaster was engulfing the rest of the country. With a complete breakdown in government and law and order, and rampant uncontrollable militia or gangs everywhere, no effective aid was possible.

Press commentary in Western countries speculated that more than half the Pakistan population was likely to die over the next year.
