Fans of the vampires versus Lycans film franchise that began with 2003's Underworld might be excited to learn that Lakeshore Entertainment is developing an Underworld reboot. A writer has been hired for the project that would bring the battle between the two formidable species of the night back to the big screen for the first time since 2012's Underworld: Awakening.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lakeshore Entertainment has hired Cory Goodman to pen an Underworld reboot that Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing. Genre fans may remember Goodman as the writer of 2011's Priest, which starred Paul Bettany and took place in a dystopian future where beast-like vampires reignite a war with the humans. Goodman also wrote the first draft of The Last Witch Hunter, an upcoming film starring Vin Diesel.

There's no official word on whether or not Kate Beckinsale will appear in this new Underworld movie. Beckinsale is considered the face of the action-horror franchise with her portrayal of Death Dealer Selene, most recently playing the role in 2012's Underworld: Awakening. We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on the Underworld reboot as more details surface.
