When the Vatican brings out the heavy artillery and officially sends two priests to handle an exorcism, you know they mean business... and so does the demon they've been sent to face. This latest spiritual showdown is at the center of director Mark Neveldine's upcoming film, The Vatican Tapes, which just received a release date.

Neveldine announced via Twitter that The Vatican Tapes will hit theaters on February 27th, 2015. A frequent collaborator with filmmaker Brian Taylor (they co-directed Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and two other films) Neveldine makes his solo directing debut with The Vatican Tapes. Here's the synopsis (courtesy of ComingSoon.net):

"The Vatican Tapes follows the haunting tale of 27-year-old Angela Holmes, played by Dudley, an ordinary girl who begins to have a devastating effect on anyone close to her, causing serious injury and death. The local priest, Father Lozano (Peña), examines Holmes and believes she is possessed, but when Vicar Imani (Hounsou) and Cardinal Bruun (Andersson) are called from the Vatican to exorcise the demon, it proves to be an ancient satanic force more powerful than they imagined."

Directed by Mark Neveldine and written by Christopher Borrelli based on a story he crafted with Chris Morgan, The Vatican Tapes stars Michael Peña, Djimon Hounsou, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Dougray Scott, Kathleen Robertson, Peter Andersson, Cas Anvar, Alex Sparrow, and John Patrick Amedori.
