If you're playing Dead Island on the PC, you'll want to update to the latest 1.2.1 patch that was recently released by Deep Silver and Techland. The patch includes a number of critical game updates and we've included a copy of the full patch notes, in case you're currently experiencing any of these problems.

If you are playing the game online over Steam, the patch should have already been downloaded automatically. There is no word yet on when additional patches will arrive for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but there is always a delay in console patch releases due to the approval process imposed by the console makers.
