Prometheus is Ridley Scott's return to science fiction films and the "Alien" universe. Although it will not be a direct prequel to the 1979 film, it will take place within the same universe and involves a crew not too different from the crew of the Nostromo. Aside from that, much of what we've heard is only rumor and speculation, but Ridley Scott took some time to discuss the film during a recent interview:

"The central metaphor of 'Prometheus' is about a 'higher being' who challenges the gods, and the gods don’t want to give him fire. 'Fire is our first form of technology,' Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished 'in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.' Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver. (Let’s hope things turn out differently for our higher being…)"

“I think the reason why I haven’t attempted science fiction in a number of years is because I haven’t really come across a script that I really liked...This developed and came out extremely well.”

Scott also mentions that the last 8 minutes of the film evolve into “a pretty good DNA of the ‘Alien’ one".

Directed by Ridley Scott, Prometheus is scheduled for release on June 8th, 2012 and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, and Guy Pearce. We are hoping to see a trailer before the end of the year, but are surprised that there hasn't been a release already, considering the fact that footage was shown at this year's Comic-Con in July.
