It looks like D.J. Caruso will be directing the film adaptation of Preacher. Multiple directors have been associated with this over the years, including Sam Mednes, but it never got off the ground. For those unaware Preacher is a Vertigo comic series written by Garth Ennis. Without giving too much away for those that haven't read it, here's a basic plot summary:
"The story follows an ex-preacher man, Jesse, who has become disgusted with God’s abandoning of His responsibilities. So Jesse starts off into the wilds of Texas with his hitman girlfriend and new best friend (a vampire) to find God so that he can give Him a piece of his mind."
D.J. Caruso tweeted today: "My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side and pretty f**king pumped!"
I'm sure we'll have more details about the deal, what happened with the original script, and its target release date shortly. I'm a fan of the comic series and think this could be a great movie series if done right. Let's hope they follow the material closely, go for an R rating, and get a solid cast involved.
