We haven't had any news on The Last Exorcism sequel since September, but production is about to start and we have details on the director and plot, plus confirmation on a returning actress:

Filming is set to begin next month in New Orleans with Ed Gass-Donnelly (Small Town Murder Songs) in the director's chair. The original plan was for Ashley Bell to return and it has been confirmed that she'll once again play Nell Sweetzer in the sequel. The movie is expected to take place 3 months after the events of the first film.

While The Last Exorcism was PG-13, we have good news for fans of the original. This sequel has been designed as an R-rated film. Eli Roth spoke briefly about the rating and the direction this sequel will be taking: "...As you can see from other recent films, fans around the world are fascinated by this subject matter, and we want to go deeper and darker this time. The first film worked great as a PG-13 psychological film, but now we want to go R-rated and show the true horror of what this subject matter offers. The biggest creative challenge will be coming up with the right title!"

The Last Exorcism sequel could be released before the end of the year and with filming starting next month, we should have more plot and casting details in the near future.
