Maybe it’s because this week’s home entertainment releases happen to be falling on the same time as Tax Day, but Tuesday’s Blu-ray and DVD debuts are what my grandfather would refer to as “slim pickins.” In terms of new titles, we’re finally getting the long-awaited sequel to Deep Blue Sea as well as the latest season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on both formats. Cult film fans will want to nab the new Blu-ray for Day of the Reaper, as it’s a very limited edition release, and for those of you looking to fill in a gap in your personal collections, The Skulls arrives in HD on April 17th, too.
Day of the Reaper (SRS Cinema, Blu-ray)
Five women on vacation are stalked by a hooded cannibal killer in the town of Sunnyville Florida. Silly antics and H.G. Lewis-style gore follow the survivors in this camp super-8 epic.
Deep Blue Sea 2 (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Blu/DVD/Digital & DVD)
Van Etten, a pharmaceutical entrepreneur, tests drugs on bull sharks in hopes to extract their antibodies to cure human diseases. Before he can continue with his experiment, he tries to enlist Misty Calhoun, a shark conservationist, and other scientists to lead and endorse this project. The drug-enhanced sharks quickly begin to adapt and learn new hunting skills. The humans lose control over the laboratory and now they have to fight to survive.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: Season 11 (Shout Factory, Blu-ray & DVD)

But when fans broke crowdfunding records to bring back Mystery Science Theater 3000, it was an event worthy of the finest disco cannons! So Jonah does what any gadget-savvy kidnappee would do: make fun of the films with the help of his wisecracking robot pals, Tom Servo (Baron Vaughn), Crow (Hampton Yount) and Gypsy (Rebecca Hanson). With luminary guest stars Mark Hamill, Neil Patrick Harris, Joel McHale and Jerry Seinfeld, and the return of some familiar faces, MST3K: The Return is sure to keep you laughing 'til you bust a seam in your jumpsuit!
