Bates Motel: New Details on Psycho Prequel TV Series

In January, A&E officially announced that they were working with Universal on a Psycho prequel series. At the time, all we knew was that the series was in the script development phase, but we now have new details on the creative forces involved.

According to Heat Vision, Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse will be serving as an executive producer on Bates Motel. Cuse will also be involved on the creative end, overseeing writing and production. Kerry Ehrin has been hired as a writer and executive producer, and will be working with Cuse.

Mark Wolper and Roy Lee are on board as producers and the show is said to be a mix of Twin Peaks and Smallville. They are said to be taking a "Walking Dead" approach to the show and planning to test the waters with a 6-episode first season and expand if everything is successful.

The series has not been given the green light, but keep an eye out for development and casting updates in the near future. Until then, here is the synopsis from the previous press release:

“Bates Motel” serves as a prequel to the most famous fright film of all-time, “Psycho.” A&E is currently in script development. “Bates Motel” will give viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates’ psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history.
